The present research is devoted to the post-WWI social and cultural milieu that made possible intellectual artistic effervescence characterizing literary production of American ex-pat writers in Paris during 1920s 1930s. structured an Introduction, four chapters, Conclusion. After a necessary general presentation, researcher goes deeper into analysis identity crisis experienced by several exile, whom Gertrude Stein, herself ex-pat, called “the Lost Generation” – among them, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Dos Passos, Sinclair Lewis, Samuel Putnam. Starting from assumption discovering Europe, discovered themselves, chose Hemingway represent generation ex-pats followed writer’s search for identity, seen as process singularization based on recognizing we share common origin or circumstances with another person community. Ample space Hemingway’s novel Sun Also Rises, where feeling uselessness nonsense accompanies characters. Having (re)discovered their Paris, many returned native America, rediscovering her more disappointing than expected.
